AIM submitted testimony to the Joint Committee on Education last week in support of H.1934, An Act to encourage employer-supported childcare. The legislation proposes to refresh the state’s Public-Private Employer Supported Childcare Trust Fund to provide matching state grants to businesses promoting childcare programming in the Commonwealth. The bill is modeled after similar programs in Iowa, Colorado, and Wisconsin.
H.1934 also establishes a special commission of interested parties – including the business community – to study and report out other potential employer-supported childcare benefit recommendations, without creating immediate business mandates.
The COVID-19 pandemic and AIM’s subsequent work through the Pink Slip Initiative shined a light on childcare access as a necessary tool for the advancement of the Massachusetts economy. AIM is proud to speak on behalf of this legislation, along with partners at the Massachusetts Business Coalition for Early Education, to promote mutually beneficial solutions and keep employers engaged in these policy conversations.
