Every year, the Associated Industries of Massachusetts (AIM) honors selected companies that have made an extraordinarily positive impact on the Commonwealth of Massachusetts with the AIM Vision Award, the John Gould Education and Workforce Award, and the Lewis Latimer Award. These three prestigious awards honor Massachusetts businesses that have made unique contributions to the economy of the commonwealth, who have changed the quality of public education, and who have demonstrated actionable commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Creating a More Equitable Commonwealth
LEWIS LATIMER AWARD
In 2021, AIM announced the creation of the Latimer Award. The award is presented annually to a Massachusetts organization or business leader who has demonstrated commitment, innovation, and/or action in the area of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion to create a more equitable commonwealth. The award honors Lewis Howard Latimer, a Chelsea native who became a noted inventor and draftsman. The child of former slaves, Mr. Latimer developed everything from an air conditioning system to a safety elevator and worked with both Thomas Edison and Alexander Graham Bell.

THE JOHN GOULD EDUCATION AND WORKFORCE AWARD
This award was established in 1998 to recognize the contributions of individuals, employers, and institutions to the quality of public education and to the advancement, employability, and productivity of residents of the Commonwealth. In 2000, the award was named after the late John Gould, upon his retirement as President and CEO of AIM, to recognize his work to improve the quality of public education and workforce training in Massachusetts.
